Physiological intracytoplasmic sperm injection

PICSI

Is a technique used to select sperm for intracytoplasmic injection into the oocyte. It involves placing the sperm in a dish with hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural compound found in the body. Selection is based on identifying sperm that can bind to hyaluronic acid.

Only sperm with appropriate receptors on their heads, i.e. those that have correctly undergone spermatogenesis, have the ability to bind to hyaluronic acid. The bound sperm are considered mature and physiologically normal and are selected for fertilization.

  • Failure of previous ICSI or IMSI procedures (no fertilization, low percentage of fertilized oocytes);
  • Poor embryo quality or stunted embryo development (not related to poor egg quality);
  • Recurrent pregnancy loss;
  • High fragmentation of sperm chromatin;
  • Abnormal HBA.
