ICSI

(Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is one of methods used in assisted reproductive technology.

The procedure involves injecting a single sperm into each egg using a very fine needle. Since the human egg is about 0.1 mm in diameter and a sperm cell is 100 times smaller, this is a delicate and precise procedure that must be performed by highly qualified embryologists using a special microscope equipped with micromanipulators.

What are the indications for ICSI?

  • Couple infertility due to abnormal semen parameters, where the classic IVF is not recommended.
  • Low sperm density and motility.
  • Sperm obtained directly from the testicle or epididymis (for example, after vasectomy or in men with ductus deferens obstruction).
  • Limitations imposed by the law on the number of eggs that can be fertilized, this is currently the most common technique.
